HUMILITY, THE GATEWAY TO GREATNESS
(1 Peter 5:6) Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.
There is beauty and greatness that comes from humbling yourself under the mighty hand of God. Humility is the gateway to greatness in the kingdom of God, for humility precedes the lifting God gives. One day, Jesus asked a certain woman who had two of her sons as disciples, “What do you wish?” She said to Him, “Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.” (Matthew 20:21). Normally, one would think Jesus would grant that wish, but He didn’t. Let’s read His answer in the next two verses. “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.” Halleluyah! So, as a Christian, your focus should be on serving the Lord and doing His work but not on positions.
The Bible teaches that Jesus humbled Himself to the lowest point in this universe, even unto death. And for that reason, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ gave Him the name that is above every other name that at the name Jesus, every knee must bow, whether it is in heaven, earth, or under the earth (Philippians 2:8-11). So, Jesus showed us the way. He demonstrated that it takes humility to occupy the position of greatness God has prepared for you. With this knowledge, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with the spirit of humility today. Halleluyah!
Confession: I am not a Christian who is focused on positions. No, never! I am filled with the spirit of humility, hence greatness in God’s kingdom cannot elude me. I am great and my greatness will know no bound for I have humbled myself under the mighty hand of God and this God keeps lifting me in due times. Halleluyah!
